Experiencing resource management - decentralised biological treatment at schools of Bangkok

The politics of Thailand is set out for combining the increase of the industrial production with a higher standard of the living conditions of wider parts of the Thai society. In order to secure the basic fundament and quality of life to next generations, Thailand is challenged to create and close energy and material circles.

The KNOTEN WEIMAR – international transfer centre on biotechnology on waste management- at the Bauhaus University of Weimar has established a project regarding the creation and the further education of awareness of Thai kids in the field of environment protection. The project is running in co-operation with the Energy and Environmental Engineering Centre of the Kasetsart University in Bangkok.In a first case study several public or private schools are examined regarding there attributes for the establishment of parts of a waste management concept. The paper introduces the concept and practical strategy for a waste management concept at the Thonburi Assumption College of Bangkok. The results of the detailed realised analyses of the waste composition of the chosen school are presented. The milestones of the project like, implementation of a composting plant and integration of an anaerobic digestion plant are shown as well. That includes a parallel introduction to the results of the calculated actual substitution of energy by using the produced biogas and the present results.
