Geosynthetic Drainage Composites with BAM-Certification for Landfill Caps Design & Dimensioning

As alternative to mineral drainage layers made of coarse gravel geosynthetic or geocomposite drainage elements, which have technical and economical advantages, are suitable for final landfill capping systems with respect to their long-term behaviour, especially considering long-term water flow capacity and long-term internal shear strength.

The German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) has established a testing guideline for suitability proof of geosynthetic or geocomposite drain elements for final landfill capping systems that is commensurate with the state-of-theart.
The BAM guideline uses a uniform procedure for determining long-term water flow capacity. For this, it is necessary to produce data for creep behaviour developed under compressive and shear stresses. The design approach is presented and discussed.

In the context of the European Climate Law (EU) 2021/1119), the Governance Regulation (EU) 2018/1999 and the Nature Restoration Regulation (EU) 2024/1991, the KAnG came into force on July 1, 2024.

Transformatives Klimarecht: Raum, Zeit, Gesellschaft
