Soil protection and remediation is becoming increasingly important in Belgium. Belgium is a federal country with three regions (the Flemish Region, the Walloon Region and the Brussels Capital Region). The regions execute most of the environmental competencies. This is also the case for the protection of soils and the remediation of contaminated soils. Soil is a regional issue.
