Energy Efficiency in MBS Plants

The ZAB Nuthe Spree waste treatment facility is located in Niederlehme, about 40 km from Berlin city centre. The plant processes residual waste using mechanical-biological stabilisation technology. The treatment process aims to produce different qualities of RDF and minimise the amount of material consigned to landfill by using a combination of biological drying and mechanical treatment. The plant has an annual capacity of 135,000 tonnes.

After a short presentation of the MBS plant, this presentation looks at the different process stages in greater detail in terms of the quality of output materials.
• biological treatment/ drying process
• mechanical treatment
• air treatment
• mass Balance
Other issues will be addressed in depth:
• energy efficiency in MBS plants
• operational plant experiences with the MBS process
• meeting the requirements of different recovery processes (fluidised bed incineration,co-incineration in lignite-fired power plants and grate incinerators)
• customising RDF (drying, shredding and pelleting)
