Already 157 plants are injecting Biogas into the gas grids of Europe. Biomethane initiatives such as new support schemes as in France and the UK should help to stimulate the market.
Producing renewable heat by using biomehtane has some advantages. By injecting upgraded biogas into the natural gas grid, production is then decoupled from utilisation in terms of time and location. The gas can also then reach urban areas far away from the location it was produced. Residential and commercial districts can be supplied with the versatile renewable energy source, from which electricity, heat or vehicle fuel can tehn be generated.
