Geomembranes are applied in a wide range of engineering barrier systems, where among vari-ous complex impacts at least one property is in common, the requirement of extraordinary me-dia resistance (Scheirs 2009). Polyethylene with high density (PE-HD) shows a remarkable good resistance against various aggressive liquids, making it suitable for landfills, hazardous waste ponds and reservoirs. Physical and chemical aging of the material are commonly investi-gated by means of time-consuming immersion tests with subsequent tensile tests (Müller 2007). The present study deals with a new fracture mechanics characterization method combining cyclic tests with cracked round bars (CRB) and a special glass media cell for a defined environment.
A PE-HD grade for geomembrane applications in two different compounding, one carbon black filled and one natural material was investigated concerning physical and chemical aging. Cyclic Cracked Round Bar (CRB) tests were conducted on unexposed and ex-posed specimens in air and within environmental tests of unexposed specimens in a media cell. Additional immersion tests with subsequent tensile tests, Oxidation Induction Time (OIT) measurement and Infrared (IR)-spectroscopy were carried out. Films as well as a series of CRB specimens were exposed to a 10 % aqueous solution of Arkopal® N110 and a 20 % aqueous so-lution of sodium chloride. A reduction of the stiffness was found for both materials under the impact of both media. The environmental cyclic CRB tests in the media cell showed comparable results to the conventional methods.

Rechtliche und praktische Unsicherheiten bei der Durchführung des europäischen Klimaanpassungsrechts durch das Bundes- Klimaanpassungsgesetz (KAnG)
© Lexxion Verlagsgesellschaft mbH (6/2025)
In the context of the European Climate Law (EU) 2021/1119), the Governance Regulation (EU) 2018/1999 and the Nature Restoration Regulation (EU) 2024/1991, the KAnG came into force on July 1, 2024.
Transformatives Klimarecht: Raum, Zeit, Gesellschaft

This article contends that climate law should be conceived as inherently transformative in a double sense. The law not only guides the necessary transformation of economy and society, but is itself undergoing transformation.
